Name- Mnemosyne
Type- Titaness
Age- Uncountable (since close to the beginning of time)
Gender- Female
Parents/Family- Parents: Gaia and Uranus
Children (by Zeus): the Muses.
Powers- As the personification of memory, Mnemosyne has control over memories, able to create, destroy or mould them at will. In humans, she can induce amnesia, memory loss, or create new memories, making them believe what she wills, though only for a short time. She is also able to gift others with rhetoric abilities, or artistic prowess. Her powers encompass some of those of the muses, her daughters, and she, as one of the primordial entities, is a force to be reckoned with. Her rhetoric and memory control allow her to charm many and seduce them, or to persuade them to do her bidding. Her followers are many, unwitting though many of them are.
She also has some power over the dead, over those who have drunk from the river taking her name, and they are obliged to do as she wills, unless she frees them from this binding.
Of course, she is also bestowed with all the general titan powers.
Weaknesses- As a titan, she has not got any of the godly benefits, though her presence on Olympus is often tolerated, due to her startlingly large contribution to the arts and general goodness of all.
She is prone to fits of irrationality and odd moods, dubbed an "artistic temperament", making her unpredictable, and sometimes vulnerable.
Her martial skills are somewhat lacking, her being the more artistic type and all.
She is fiercely protective of the written words, and books particularly, and will be dangerously harsh on anyone who defaces or damages them.
She spends a lot of time on Earth, being among humanity, and can sometimes lose touch with others of her own kind, making her seem isolated and antisocial, meaning she forms few alliances and bonds with Olympians and titans, making her weaker.
Physical Description- As a titan, her physical form is open to change, but she has one form she tends to choose above others.
In this form, she is tall for a human women, around 5'11", and well-shaped. Her skin is milky pale, flawless, seeming pallid and sometimes ill in the wrong light. Her hair falls part way down her back, ginger, and curly, a few shorter strands free around her heart-shaped face. She generally wears her hair in a plait. Her eyes are icy blue, and seemingly very cold, like storms and fierce weather. She has long fingers, with a wide grasp suited to playing musical instruments, though her grip is surprisingly strong.
She chooses her clothing on a whim, mostly, wearing whatever seems appropriate in her current surroundings. Since her preferred form is a teenage girl, she generally resorts to typical clothing for that age-group, picking jeans and casual shirts, with trainers or boots. The only constant is a silver pendant she wears, engraved with her true name in the Ancient Greek alphabet.
Mental Description- She is irrational, unpredictable, insatiable. Her moods are varied and quick to change, shifting easily on the slightest provocation. Her loyalties are mutable, as are her feelings, and a friend one day can easily be an enemy the next.
Her passions for her chosen fields, however, are immovable and fierce. She loves the work of words, spoken and written, and will watch plays, read books, write poetry, even listen to politicians speak, incessantly, never ceasing to be amazed at the wondrous varieties of language. She even writes herself, and has been published under various pseudonyms.
History- Born of Gaia and Uranus, Mnemosyne was one of the original Titans, present in the so-called "Golden Age", where man was oppressed by the titans and unenlightened. She, however, played little part in this opression, keeping away from her fellows, for the most part.
After the rise of the Gods over the Titans, she threw in her lot with the Gods, rather than being imprisoned with the rest of her kind. She never fought for either side, and so support among the Gods can sometimes be tenuous and fluid.
She was granted access to Olympus after the birth of her daughters by Zeus and her gift of writing to humans, when the other Gods gave the now-free humans gifts, like Pandora and her box.
Her life afterwards was generally one of helping in subtle ways behind the scenes. Her control of memory allowed some measure of control over human and godly events, so she has been able to steer things her way whenever she chooses, though she has not done this as often as might have been expected.
In Ancient Greece, and in Rome, she could often be seen wandering the streets in the form of a beautiful women, and was revered as a good omen, an apparition heralding good news. In truth, she went to see the arts of humanity, the domain of her daughters.
She continued this as civilisation moved on, following the centre of art wherever it took her. Her apparition was soon forgotten, however, and she began to be just another person in the crowd, watching with the other spectators. She has enjoyed this role as a watcher, and sometimes manipulator, of events and has written down many of the things she has seen for her own later enjoyment. She has in fact transcripts of some of the lost plays of Shakespeare, as she sat and watched them, transfixed, in the Globe theatre.
In more modern times, she turns her hand to creating arts of her own, maintaining a house on Earth by means of the royalties from books she writes and sells. She has a residence on Olympus, but she rarely uses it, and the Gods have all but forgotten she even exists. She prefers the company of mortals.
Like any of the immortals, she has had her love affairs, but hers tended to be short-lived, and not ending in the tragedy which stalks hand-in-hand with most Gods and Titans in their amorous conquests. She is bored easily, and so she tends to toss aside each boyfriend after very little time, before they have a chance to really get into trouble, though there have been exceptions.
